The author portrays an image of a clown wearing a hat that exudes a sense of loneliness. The work is presented in profile to the viewer, with both joy and sadness. The clown's face does not show much fluctuation, mainly highlighting the large and round red nose. Its slender neck is vigorously extended forward, as if trying to breathe in the oxygen around it, giving the overall image a sense of weightlessness and adding a sense of desolation.

《长颈圣母》是帕尔米贾尼诺将神圣题材抽象化、追求极致 优雅的一个例子， 中央的圣母与圣子有着拉长的四肢和脖子， 以极不寻常的比例闻名，此画中的人体均被拉长，圣母有着长颈和纤细的手指，这种变形的造型令人 联想到中世纪拜占庭教堂中的圣母形象。画家喜欢描绘复杂的人体转折，并故意夸张人体比例 。其中夸张变形的造型给予作者灵感， 在小丑角色上进行应用。 在作品装饰纹样上， 主要是菱形和条纹构成的装饰纹样， 身体部分选用鲜亮的 橙色， 颈部分为三个层次自上而下， 依次是黄色 、棕色 、绿色为主。
