'Accretions' looks to the influence of natural processes to explore the materiality of clay. I have developed this unique technique called ‘Increment Forming’ whereby porcelain swirls over a porous surface forming a sublime accumulation of layers; the embodiment of a dream-like story, one of an ethereal creation. The forms are fragments of an imagined universe where I seek to express something of geological vision through waves of fluid movement

Blurring the boundaries between the perceptions of the psyche (memory/dream/imagination) my work explores the ethereal qualities of clay, through which a universe materialises based on formations found throughout the natural world. By simulating and recreating these textural elements imprinted in my subconscious, they manifest into otherworldly forms and artefacts. Bodies of work are constructed around a particular theme or concept which relate to, or are often inspired by geological formations or phenomena. These forms are often a visual exploration of time and the temporal nature of existence. Using the fluidity of porcelain slip in a range of states I am able to explore the relationships between surface and substance, what is real - and what is imagined in a series of dream-like scapes of textures and compositions. Working intuitively with the serendipitous nature of the material, I reinvent traditional techniques of making, which form new languages within the material.
