Concept of artwork 設計理念:
The title of this work is derived from the name Ophelia, a name weighted with cultural references. Philia however means with fondness. Origin: combining form meaning "friendship, fondness", from Greek philia"affection", from philos "loving". This work references and challenges classical forms of figurative sculpture to interpret a range of themes. My work implies and is often fiercely motivated by feminist themes, alongside observations of specific contemporary subcultures. This piece is titled to reference and means to engage with the concept of Biophilia, humanities innate connection and necessity to connect with/love nature. It is simultaneously situated at the crossroads of the rioting potential or the potential to riot and a garden meditation. This work defies gender specific interpretation. Themes of death and regeneration are coupled with observations of contemporary culture. It is interesting to me how engagement with fundamental symbols such as the human body and the motif of floral origins, or a skull, can become commercialised to such an extent that it becomes generic within our culture and still in its depiction maintain an aspect of uniqueness.
