Concept of artwork

Deconstructivism in my opinion, is a way of reading objects, a dynamic process of reflection, mapping and definition, it is an interpretation and conception of my vitality and spiritual matter. Through the fragmentation and reconstruction of moulds, it challenges and subverts the conventional ideas about form and order, developing my own aesthetic in the process of creating. The moulds used in making these works were mostly disposed of by the Yingge Ceramics Factory. By dissecting the moulds into smaller sections of plaster and stacking them in a new arrangement, some traces of the shape and form of the original mould is retained. As the plaster absorbs water content, slip poured into the fragmented structure slowly climbs the walls of the mould, and a layer of porcelain is formed; resulting in the various complex traces left by the production process.

Although slip casting is a technique commonly used in mass production, my work cannot be easily reproduced. This new interpretation of the mould and its next life is transformed through the process of fragmentation and reconstruction, creating irregular complex forms and challenging one’s preconception of form and order.
