Concept of artwork 設計理念:
The human desire to make functional objects beautiful fascinates me as it shows a need for self-expression that is impractical. Ceramics has a familiar quality, as a material common in homes and used daily around the world it is almost comforting. Yet these everyday objects can be incredibly beautiful in their own right. Having grown up near Stoke-on-Trent, the heritage of the area has been an important source of inspiration. With this collection I created functional forms as vehicles to explore the ceramic surface, creating a layered quality. Inspired by traditional ceramics made in Stoke, I hope to bring a fresh contemporary feel to functional forms.

The collection is made of bone china, and is polished after bisque firing. Glaze is poured over the surface in a watercolourwash effect. This is then layered with screen printed enamel decoration, creating a layered surface. Leaving part unglazed exposes the beauty of the ceramic body.
