Concept of artwork 設計理念:
This piece is inspired by the urban variation of brick work. By placing individual coloured porcelain tiles inside a mould I start to create a wall. This wall is personal to me and is built with memory and time. I know how I was feeling and what I was doing during its manufacture. After completion I single fired it up to top temperature leaving the result and warp up to the kiln. My once linear tesselation now becomes more natural with movement weaving layer upon layer.
The ceramic process is all about change, the moulding of the clay, the personal mark making, the firing and changing colours that it causes. This is the reason I love working with this material, so rich in history and heritage, with associations across cultures. Through my making I aim to highlight the meditative process of the material, I am motivated and entirely dedicated to my practice. The names of my sculpture refers back to my reference of colour. On a recent trip to Rajasthan in India I was struck by the intense yet diluted colours found on the street walls and temple frescos. Bleached by the sun and drenched by the monsoons I saw these colours being replicated in coloured clays. This was the start of my body of work and my fascination and exploration of additions within porcelain.
