Concept of artwork 設計理念:
The natural environment of Port Talbot is dominated, and arguably overshadowed, by the town’s steel industry, the largest in the UK. My project explores the impact and relationship the towns industrial history has had on the natural landscape, our dependency upon resource and the repercussions of our actions. The ceramic objects I have made are an interpretation of my exploration. Forms imprinted with the visceral presence of the physical land and, with hope, a visual dialogue that conveys a narrative of the human experience, of both my own and the history of the town. Within my range of work I have captured different perspectives and characteristics that Port Talbot holds. The work reveals the collaboration between the natural landscape and human work which is so deeply ingrained in the town. Threaded throughout the work is the interaction between objects in the same way humans and the natural environment operate in Port Talbot.

About my own Practice: Every location has its own history, culture and community, a notion of place that provides an endless source of inspiration for my work and practice. Clay is part of the geological platform on which we stand. A material that not only connects us to our most primitive beginnings but one that also offers a versatility and possibility to produce contemporary objects of craft and design as valid as any in the modern era. Clay is one of the original products of recycling, from mountain top to river bed, this natural material offers me the chance to engage with the elemental earth and, through practice, build upon the traditions and lineage of human making.
